e2v wins Regional Growth Fund award

e2v, the designer and developer of innovative solutions for high performance systems has today announced that it has been awarded a £3.8m grant from the Regional Growth Fund (RGF) administered by the UK Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS).

The grant is part of an overall investment of £13.5m and supports e2v’s strategic plan for growth within its space imaging business. The project will build on e2v’s established position as the leading manufacturer of imaging devices for space exploration and earth observation for the world’s largest space agencies, to further advance its imaging technologies and move into the broader management and supply of imaging and control sub-systems and solutions.

It is anticipated that the project will create 130 new jobs at e2v and a further 30 jobs with e2v’s partners over the coming 3 years, including at the Open University and Rutherford Appleton Labs.

e2v was also a successful  bidder in round 1 of the RGF awards for its ProWave microwave generator project.

Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government visited e2v as part of the award announcements to see the areas directly benefiting from RGF investment, meeting with e2v engineers and new graduates working on the projects.

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles said: “The £3.8million given to e2v is money well spent. It will create jobs for the local Essex economy and boost a company that is a world leader in cutting edge technology. I’ve seen their amazing systems first hand and have rarely witnessed such impressive technology being built here in Britain.” Adding  “The Regional Growth Fund is supporting businesses around the country and helping grow the economy. This £1billion boost to British business is good value for money – with private sector investment of over £6billion – and creating jobs where they are needed.”

Keith Attwood CEO of e2v commented “Funding through the RGF is playing an important role in enabling and accelerating our development projects and shows genuine commitment on behalf of the government in supporting manufacturing and sustainable high level job creation in the UK.”

The RGF is a £2.4 billion fund operating across England from 2011 to 2015, intended to stimulate enterprise by providing support for projects and programmes with significant potential for creating long term private sector led economic growth, employment and export opportunities.
