e2v launch 150ºC microcontroller for systems exposed to extreme environments

e2v, the leading high-reliability semiconductor provider, today announces the release of a 150°C temperature version of its high reliability PC5674F microcontroller, offering an ideal integrated solution for aerospace and industrial applications exposed to extreme environments.

Distributed electronics are becoming increasingly common in applications across automotive, industrial and aerospace markets. Embedding digital systems closer to the sensor and actuators is a way to increase system performance and reliability. For example commercial avionics systems can save a large amount of cable weight by using this approach, which improves aircraft fuel efficiency. However, some of these electronic components are exposed to harsh environments, from a -55°C cold temperature for powerup in avionics, up to ambient high temperatures of 125°C or more for engine control or industrial systems.

With its extended operating range, from -55°C up to +150°C and proven qualification results, e2v’s new embedded PC5674F MCU offers a complete solution to customers designing systems that must sustain such extreme temperature variations.

Featuring advanced processing capabilities based on a Power Architecture e200z7 core (which runs up to 264MHz), the PC5674F also features Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) and Floating Point Unit (FPU) for digital signal processing. With 4MB of on-chip flash memory, protected by Error Correction Coding (ECC), its integrated 64 channel Quad 12bit ADC allows the PC5674F to receive signals directly from sensors without the need for external pre-processing. In addition, the PC5674F embeds several communication interfaces, including FlexCAN, eSCI, DSPI, as well as an External Bus Interface (EBI). The PC5674F also features the eTPU2 time processor unit, an advanced programmable I/O controller that allows the processor to perform complex timing and I/O management independently from the core.

“Embedding digital systems closer to the sensor and actuators can increase system performance and reliability. With its embedded memory and analogue features as well as extended operating range, the PC5674F offers a complete solution for customers whilst allowing them to significantly simplify their systems. This is particularly critical for high-temperature electronics, where peripheral components are expensive and limited in supply” said Richard Gibbs, President of e2v’s High-reliability Semiconductor Solutions Division.

e2v’s PC5674F is an ideal choice for applications such as distributed engine control in aircraft and data acquisition and control in extreme environments. .
