e2v first to market with Magnetoresistive Random Access Memory (MRAM) devices for extended-reliability applications

e2v, the leading designer and manufacturer of specialised electronic components, announced today the production availability of the EV2A16A – an extended-reliability version of the MR2A16A from Everspin Technologies, offering fast read and write cycle times (35 ns), with non-volatility and unlimited read & write endurance (>20 years data retention), for demanding applications in defence, avionics and industrial markets.

Operating from -55°C to 125°C, this IC is the first in a product family of high-reliability MRAMs based on the partnership between e2v and Everspin Technologies.

e2v’s EV2A16A is a small form-factor parallel MRAM (16-bit) that features a density of 4 Mb, configuration of 256Kx16 and is SRAM compatible using existing SRAM controllers without the need for redesign. Data is non-volatile, providing over 20 years of data retention and so is the perfect memory solution for applications where permanent and rapid data storage and retrieval is needed without the requirement for battery backup. Coupled with this performance is e2v’s market first of providing this MRAM for extended-reliability applications: from
-55°C Tc to 125°C Tj for demanding requirements such as defence radar, avionics flight computers and graphic displays, power plant control, and field networking systems, where reliability over severe environmental conditions is mission critical.

“Aerospace and defence system designers are demanding product solutions that combine the latest memory storage technology with an extended-reliability IC product”, said Eric Marcelot, e2v’s Hi-Rel Microprocessors Marketing Manager. Adding: “e2v is uniquely able to deliver against this need. The EV2A16A leverages over 20 years of e2v’s expertise in high reliability product development, including packaging and test IC program development, and is backed by e2v’s reliability and long-term availability obsolescence programs for our full line of Hi-Rel. products.”

The EV2A16A is now available in full production in a Thin Small Outline Package (TSOP), 11 44 pin package, and is specified over the full Military temperature range (-55°C Tc; 125°C Tj). Contact your local e2v Sales office for details of obtaining samples.
